Man Created God

I believed in Santa Claus once, but with time and experience I learnt that Santa doesn’t exist. I was taught about God and Religion, but now I know this isn't a God-created-world. Man has created God.

The amount of evil and suffering in this world is beyond all contemplation. How could a perfect God create a universe filled with so much evil? Why would a perfect God create faulty humans? Why would he then punish humans for the faults he himself gave them? Why are thousands dying everyday of starvation? Why crimes still prevail in a world that is created and run by God himself? Well, why would a perfect God create a world in the first place?!

If God exists, He is omniscient. And if this is true, doesn’t he know that he is immortal when he takes birth in human form (Jesus, Ram)? And if he is immortal, how does whatever happened to him can be called a sacrifice? You know what will happen to you, you want it happen to you, you make it happen to you and you know whatever happens can do no harm to your immortality. Then, how exactly is it sacrifice (Jesus' crucified, Ram's suffering)?

If at all there is anyone who should be looked upon as God, he would be among us mortals. If at all there is someone who deserves to be worshipped, it would be someone who has done something significant for human race or his country than just writing Geeta or Quran or Bible. And in that sense, Oskar Schindler is God. Abraham Lincoln is God. Bhagat Singh is God. Mohammed Hossein Fahmideh is God. William Wallace is God. Defence Forces are God. And trust me, we can do with crores of such Gods but not with even one that preaches religion!

Religion is probably the worst thing that has happened to mankind. Love alone is enough to run the world. But when you need to justify hate, there's no better tool than religion. You'll never need religion to do something good, but the crutches of evil are needed to do evil. No religion has ever provided a solution to anyone's problems. Religion has been, and continues to be, responsible for most of evils in this world. People feel gravely offended if anything is said against their religion but not so much when anything is said against their country or when they see injustice in society. What a pity!

We keep praying, and praying, and praying, and all prayers go unnoticed! And as a final refuge we say "God works in mysterious ways. God has better plans for us." Why fool yourself? Why not stop praying and actually start doing something? We have faced a lot of calamities, most recent being the floods in Uttarakhand. What did we do? We pray for them! We pray, do nothing, and still think we are helping! Not even 1 of 36 crore (Male + Female) of our so called Gods turned up for the rescue. Who came to the rescue were a bunch of mortals from Indian Defence Services who proved that hard work does more than a prayer of millions. Those people should be our Gods. And I tell you, your and my mythological God takes away a lot of credit from these people and their gallantry. May it be their heroics in war at Longewala where 120 fought against 2000 to save our Land or it be in rescue missions every now and then. I always feel like saying the famous lines of Winston Churchill - "Never was so much owed by so many to so few."

And if you believe we need God/Religion so that people don't commit sins and devilish acts out of fear, think of those gentlemen from Delhi (Newspaper arrives with rape news everyday). It is entirely upto the individual. Good people will keep doing good, even in absence of God's divine surveillance. If you are hubris of highest order to still believe in God and Religions, atleast know this - Ram and Jesus and Allah might be what this world deserves, but they definitely are not what this world needs right now!

As the Greek Philosopher Epicurus brilliantly says:

“Is God willing to prevent evil, but not able? Then he is not omnipotent.  

Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent. 

Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil? 

Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?”

Forget religions. Forget God. Remember only one thing that Rahul Dravid said at Sir Bradman Oration - "Try to leave every place better than you found it". If at all there are Gods and they are just, they will love you if you have done some good to humanity even if you've not worshipped them. If there are Gods, but unjust, then you anyway would not want to worship them. If there are no Gods, you won’t be reborn in this world but atleast you would have done something good for which you shall be remembered forever. Try to make this world a better place instead of thinking about heavens. No such things as heaven or hell exist. And if at all it exists, then this is Heaven - Our Country!

The day love and morality gets precedence over God and religion, this world will be a heaven we all dream of.

PS: If anything unfortunate happens to me earlier than expected, please understand that it will solely be due to my mistake/actions/carelessness. Do not say it happened to me as a punishment for I wrote all this against your God!! :P

Kohli prepares for English conditions, learns foulest of English words

While the rest of Indian Cricket Team was sweating it out in the nets, two players – Virat Kohli and Murali Vijay were found preparing themselves off the field.

Kohli was seen sitting comfortably on a chair, holding a book in his able hands. The book read “Master Verbal Abuse in 5 Days” on its cover page.

When asked how difficult it would be acclimatize to English conditions, the dashing batsman said, “Conditions here are different compared to what they were back home. And we need to prepare accordingly. That’s precisely why I am learning new invectives. No one will understand a B**C** or an M**C** here, we’ll have to learn new ones in English language to make an impact in these conditions. We are preparing well for the contest.”

 “Experience also helps. When we toured Australia, I did not prepare too well and hence had to use my body parts (middle finger to be precise) and gestures. This time I will let mouth do the talking.” added Kohli, who seems to be learning from his experiences.

Kohli used his middle finger as a temporary bookmark while he was interviewed.

Murali Vijay was reportedly heard chanting “Thank You God” in a nearby Church. He was as much shocked in disbelief on his inclusion in the side as every other Cricket fan back home.

The Great Wall of India, no? Okay.

Writing this for someone who has influenced my life the most.

They say all good things come to an end. I never believed in that. Never until Friday - March 09, 2012. By the way, we IT Professionals love Fridays, don’t we? But that was one Friday, I wish, should have never come. An Era had ended.

That day, I was in my Office cursing myself for missing out on a MAN’s press conference. I could not watch that Live, but I watched recordings of his press conference on one of the news channel websites as soon as I went home. It gave me Goosebumps. I was in tears then. I am in tears now when I write this. Yes, I am talking about a MAN called Rahul Dravid. The MAN who has announced retirement from International Cricket. The MAN who defined Cricket to me. The MAN who taught us how to put team over self. However, as I promised, I won’t bore you by putting up stats and numbers, for records and stats bore me too. I want to talk less of Dravid-the-Batsman and more of Dravid-the-Idol-the-Indian.

By the way, I heard Tendulkar has been offered a seat in Parliament? Is that for real? But he hasn’t announced retirement from Cricket, right? He hasn’t said NO to parliament also, no? So will he be at two places at the same time? Well you never know, he’s the GOD after all (and hence Omnipresent). However, anyone who has a matured head on his shoulder would prefer a Dravid and not a Tendulkar in Parliament. Such a great Orator Dravid is. The best Speaker in Team. Is the only non Australian to have been called for Sir Don Bradman Oration – and what a speech that was – Epic! Made India proud. Cricket proud. If ‘Pani Da Rang’, ‘Peeloon’ or  ‘Teri Or’ delights you, please listen to – or read – Dravid’s speech at Bradman oration. You’ll find it as delightful as any top romantic song, if not more (and if ‘Chikni Chameli’ and ‘Jalebi Bai’ are your favourites, well, you don’t need any words of wisdom). So coming back to Sachin and Parliament, he has played FOR the country in the past. By offering him a seat in Parliament, they now want him to play WITH the country’s future!

In 2000, 12 years ago, when I was 10, my Father asked me whom I wanted to become like. Without a moment of hesitation I said – Rahul Dravid. “Why Dravid and not Sachin?” asked my Father. “I don’t know why” I said “but I want to become like him. No specific reason.” Well, today I know why. Today I have reasons. Plenty of them. And now I also know why my Father was proud of whom I chose then.

Dravid was the most Selfless. The most Versatile. The most Humble. A Champion. A True Legend. A Perfect Role Model. The Wall. The most Special. The Go-To Man in Crises. The Finest. The most Respectful. The Greatest Test Cricketer India has ever seen. Yes, The Greatest – second to none! Well, I often wonder where Dravid was when all those arguments and scuffles took place on field against Australia, Pakistan. He must be on some other planet, no? For I never ever saw him involved in any. Things won’t ever be same again. In Dravid’s absence, Cricket will no more be a gentleman’s game. When I look back at history of cricket, I find that Rahul Dravid is the only man who has given more to the game than what game has given him. I am not sure if Dravid will miss Cricket more or Cricket will miss Dravid more.

Having said that, there was one thing Dravid could never do in his career. He could never say a NO to anything asked of him for India. Can you bat low in ODIs? Yes. Can you open in Tests? Yes. Will you keep wickets? Yes! He never liked keeping wickets, but he did it for India in ODIs. He was never comfortable, nor convincing, but he made himself look bad for the team to look good! He may not be the world’s greatest cricketer, but he definitely is the greatest man to have played cricket.

Rahul Dravid is the one I’ve proudly proclaimed as my idol. And I tell you, you’ll struggle to find a better role model than Rahul Dravid. You don’t often find a person as exceptional as his achievements.

It has been great joy, honour and greater privilege to watch him bat over the years. Blessed am I to have born in his Era. There never was, and there shall never be another Dravid. For the next 100 years, India will search for its next Dravid – but will never find one. If I was to define Dravid in one line, I would say what Harsha Bhogle had to say about him:

"The Wolf who lived for the Pack"

I am proud of the fact that I live in a country where everyone has the right to follow the religion of his choice – the GOD of his choice – because my GOD is Rahul Dravid. If ever I want my kids to become like someone, it will be Rahul Dravid. Thank You Dravid for all those beautiful Cover drives. Thank You for Leeds. Thank You for Adelaide. Thank You for Rawalpindi. Thank You for Eden Gardens, Kolkata - Only to name a few…

Well, I learnt that all good things come to an end. But I also learnt that Nice guys DON’T always finish last!
